Stephanie Silverman ‘00 Named 2024 National Independent School Art Educator of the Year

Art & Design Department Chair and Archmere Alumna Mrs. Stephanie Silverman '00 was selected from a national pool of independent school art educators for the 2024 National Independent School Art Educator of the Year Award.
Presented by the Independent School Art Educators Association (ISAE), the award recognizes an educator who demonstrates an innovative approach to curricular development, leadership within the field of art education at the state, national, and/or international level, and the proven capacity to inspire students to become meaningfully engaged in the courses they teach, and whose efforts help shape the future of education in independent schools. Silverman will be recognized at the National Art Education (NAEA) National Convention in Minneapolis on April 4, 2024.

Stephanie was nominated by her doctoral advisor, Dr. Marjorie Cohee Manifold, Professor of Art Education and Curriculum Studies at Indiana University. In her nomination, Dr. Manifold wrote, "The most significant evidence of Stephanie's excellence as a teacher of art is in the quality of work she elicits from her students. Here the care, sensitivity, knowledge, and creative instruction Stephanie applies to teaching is made evident through the successes of her students. Stephanie's students are frequently recognized with the highest honors in exhibitions and competitions, such as the prestigious national Scholastic Art Awards."

Of the award and recognition, Stephanie states, “I share this recognition with all of the inspiring and creative students I have been privileged to learn from and teach. I am especially grateful to all of the outstanding educators who have taught and mentored me, both as an adolescent and in my professional career in art and design education, most of all, the late Terry Newitt.”
